Tulipani: Love, Honour and a Bicycle

Tulipani: Love, Honour and a Bicycle

For me, Tulipani was a first in many ways. Being a co-production between Canada, the Netherlands and Italy, it was my first time working on a foreign language film. Thank goodness for those little words known as subtitles. It was also my first opportunity to work with Academy Award winning director Mike Van Diem. Needless to say, I learned a great deal from him and his incredibly detailed vision for the film. And finally, it was my first chance to collaborate with long time friend and colleague Jim McGrath who not only co-wrote the score with me but also did all the orchestra prep.

What fun we had composing this eclectic score that was recorded both here in Toronto at Canterbury Sound and also remotely in Budapest. The film premiered at TIFF in 2017 and has gone on to win many audience favourite awards at festivals around the world including the Italian Contemporary Film Festival.

Thanks to Keith Ohman who mixed the music so beautifully. And an extra big thanks to David Cormican for trusting me to score this very special film filled with stunning images and incredible story telling.
